Assessment and Problem Resolution Planning
Evaluation of
employees and their immediate family members for personal problems,
such as alcohol and drug abuse, emotional and psychological
problems, marital, relationship and family concerns, legal and
financial issues. EAP works with the employee/family member to
determine the best course of action to resolve the problem.
Referral, Follow-Up and Case Management Services
Where needed,
referral to a qualified, affordable community resource is made.
Referrals which utilize insurance benefits will be coordinated
within the plan design. Follow-up and case management provided
according to individual need.
Short-term Problem Resolution Counseling
May be offered by the
EAP in cases where the personal problem is less severe in nature and
does not require long-term counseling. Generally, clients are seen
for one to four sessions total at EAP.
Supervisor / Employer Referrals
Upon request from the
employer, EAP provides assessment, short-term problem resolution
planning and follow-up services to persons with performance issues

Management and Supervisor Consultation
Consultation to
managers and supervisors regarding workplace behavioral problems
including strategies for performance improvement and risk
management.
Provider and Community Resource Knowledge and Development
Development of community resources to assist in the resolution of
behavioral health concerns.
Data Collection, Management, and Reporting
Comprehensive
reports to management to determine EAP utilization and
effectiveness.
Employee and Supervisor Training
On the use of the EAP,
performance intervention and other related topics.
Program Promotion
Educational materials to inform management,
supervisors and employees about EAP.
Crisis Intervention and Critical Incident Debriefing
24-hour
availability for emergencies. Critical incident debriefing for
employees following a traumatic event, such as physical violence or
the threat of physical violence, employee injury or accident while
on duty, death of co-worker (in or out of the workplace), and
natural or workplace disasters.
Affiliate Network Development and Quality Controls
In order to
provide in-person employee assistance services outside the Central
Virginia area, EAP provides a network of
subcontracted
affiliate counselors. The quality of the network is monitored and
controlled by credentialing, advisement/training, recredentialing
and other quality assurance processes.
