Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) Services

Over the last five years, there have been substantial changes to U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, both for employees and employers.  A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holder, who violates a DOT rule (most commonly tests positive for alcohol or illicit drugs), must comply with a formal, structured psychosocial evaluation by a qualified SAP.  This evaluation must be documented properly by the SAP of record, and the outcome of this evaluation must be communicated in clear terms to the Designated Employer Representative (DER).  Failure to complete the formal SAP process can result in the CDL holder being barred from operating a commercial vehicle indefinitely, and can result in substantial monetary fines to the employer.

As of July 2010, EACV provides SAP services free of charge for employees of our member companies; the fee for such services is encompassed in the usual and customary fee for employee assistance services.  For individuals or employees of non-member companies, the current fees are as follows: $300 for the initial SAP interview; $300 for the follow up SAP interview.

Due to the uniqueness and specificity of the SAP process, please contact Bob Conlon, EACV Operations Manager, for more details regarding this important service at  (434) 845-1246 or (800) 645-1246 toll free.

All our SAP professionals are qualified under the current U.S. DOT requirements. Verifying paperwork is available upon request.
